How  Rosacea is Effected by stress?

Stress affects our health in more ways than one. Not only does it weaken our immunity, but it has a tendency to acerbate any problems or conditions that we may already in existence. This can be both physical and psychological. Unfortunately Rosacea is no exception to this rule. Stress in any amount can affect this condition.

What Doctors Know

Many dermatologists and doctors have spent their entire lives trying to decipher this complex and perplexing skin condition. Many doctors have even coined a term for stress related illness and given it its own filed; also known as “psych dermatology”. This is the study of stress and its effect on the body. Doctors believe that the psychological state of mind will become reflected externally somewhere on the body. Patients with Rosacea just “interpret” stress in their skin.  Another patient may respond to stress with a state of panic, heavy asthmatic-like breathing condition known as the “panic attack”. Both of these patients suffer from the same problem: stress, only their bodies react in different ways. The patient with Rosacea breaks out in red blotchy spots all over his face, where the panic attack patient, feels trapped, claustrophobic and as though he may die. Both are serious conditions but Rosacea is visible and anxiety is not. This is not suggesting that the condition is “all in the mind” but this opens a door understanding that stress’ effects on the body are very real.
